With our mission to empower student creativity and critical understanding,
the Art Department at Wake Forest University encourages, fosters, and promotes individual expression. We welcome students of all backgrounds, religious faiths, sexuality and gender identity, race, ethnicity, and ability status. We recognize that the institutions of art and art history are allied to structures of power, privilege, and inequality. Therefore, we strive to represent diverse artists and cultures in our curriculum and to interrogate harmful narratives of racism and discrimination that persist in the field. We are committed to creating, embracing, and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Furthermore, we give students the tools to create new artistic and historical narratives: to communicate, to think critically, and to contribute at Wake Forest and beyond.
