Congratulations to Rudy!
Rudy Shepherd ’98 came to WFU to study biology, chemistry, and physics with the goal of becoming a doctor. After taking a sculpture class with David Finn, his focus shifted to becoming a creative artist and pursuing a Studio Art degree. After attending graduate school at the Art Institute of Chicago, Rudy moved to New York City for an artist-in-residence program at PS1/MOMA and has lived there ever since. He has shown his work widely throughout the USA, and is represented by Mixed Greens Gallery in NYC. In 2011 Rudy returned to Wake Forest as a visiting artist, exhibiting work from his Portrait series at START Gallery. Rudy Shepherd’s latest work explores the nature of evil through the mediums of painting and sculpture. Currently he has a solo exhibition of portraits, “Rudy Shepherd: Somebody’s Child” July 18 – November 29, 2020 at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut. These compelling portraits depict victims of police violence. Some are familiar faces from the media news.
