Lydia Smith Featured in Two FotoFocus Biennial Exhibitions

Professor of Studio Art, Lydia Smith, is a featured artist in two exhibitions by FotoFocus Biennial. The first exhibition, Haunting, is currently up at the Columbus College of Art & Design: Beeler Gallery in Ohio, September 3 until November 11. The second exhibition, Natural Fictions, will run from September 30 through March 6, 2027 at The Carnegie Gallery in Covington, Kentucky. Both exhibitions feature works by various artists, including Lydia Smith.

Haunting features artists working across media who share a restless relationship with time. Whether reaching into the deep past, inhabiting an unsettled present, or anticipating an arriving future, the artists make visible what ordinary sight cannot hold.

Natural Fictions considers how photography can resist linearity and certainty. What new narratives emerge when nature is approached as something invented as much as it is observed? What futures might become imaginable when science meets spirit or when perspective is shaped by play instead of conquest? Natural Fictions invites viewers to look sideways—and forward—at the environments we inhabit, inherit, and imagine.

Additionally, Lydia Smith will give a talk on her installation Cyclorama (Norwood Mound) and the Norwood Mound site, on December 5 at The Carnegie Gallery. The Norwood Mound is a burial mound in Cincinnati, Ohio, is the last of its kind, and has never been excavated or touched.
