Dr. Harry Titus, beloved Professor Emeritus of Art, passed away on June 26. He inspired countless students and colleagues during his 32 years at Wake, retiring in 2013. Harry was indeed one of a kind and held an equal passion for teaching as he did for genuinely connecting with people. He possessed the rare ability to be beloved and respected for his uncompromising standards, coupled with a loving, generous, and accessible spirit. His friends and colleagues from the Department of Art will greatly miss him. Some of his former students put it best when they shared these thoughts on Professor Titus:

“He made you feel important and cared for. He had a spark.”

“His enthusiasm, curiosity, and love of learning were absolutely infectious.”

“Sometimes it was about art and architecture, but more often, he taught me about appreciating people.”

“An invaluable mentor and kind soul.”

“He balanced expertise with a lighthearted view of life and I will always carry that as his most important lesson.” Obituary  Inside WFU
